The Chester County Youth Orchestra is a non-profit organization and is sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
The orchestra has many opportunities to volunteer your time and effort in order to improve the orchestra and help make the experience for the student musicians better. The orchestra is run by a board of volunteers and there are always opportunities to help during rehearsal and performances.
The orchestra currently has a number of open volunteer positions. Please consider helping the orchestra by volunteering to fill one of these positions. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please contact a member of the board.
Equipment Manager: The orchestra has a number of instruments (timpani, gong, drumset, etc.) that need to be transported to the venues where we perform. The orchestra owns a trailer, used to transport these instruments. The equipment manager brings the trailer to and from the performances and is responsible for loading and unloading the trailer, as well as returning it to its storage location at the CCIU in Downingtown. The equipment manager will need a hitch on his or her truck.
Concert and Rehearsal set-up and take-down: The orchestra can always use people to help with the setup and take down of our venues for rehearsal and concerts. Generally this involves setting up and moving the musicians chairs for the rehearsal or performance and returning the venue to it’s original state after the concert or rehearsal. For rehearsals, this can be done in about 15 minutes before and after the rehearsal, for concerts this involves getting to the location at the designated ‘setup time’ and helping after the concert until the venue is returned to its preconcert state.
