Acceptance into the Chester County Youth Orchestra is by audition only.  The Orchestra currently accepts talented musicians between the ages of 12 and 18.

Applicants should prepare the following for their audition:

1. Major Scales: Students will be asked to play 2 major scales:
   • Please refer to our Scale Guidelines Document for information on required scales, octaves,  rhythm/tempo, and articulation requirements!
   • Scales should be memorized.  Students should not use a scale book or reference chart.
2. Sight Reading:  Students will be provided with a short excerpt to sight read.
3. Orchestral Excerpts:  Please prepare the following excerpts for your instrument. Each instrument has two contrasting excerpts.

• • • Percussionists– all percussionists should prepare an audition on Snare Drum (2 excerpts & sight reading), and if possible, also on glockenspiel (scales, 1 excerpt, & sight reading)

An audition should last a total of approximately 10 minutes.
